Canada Crane Conference Provides Hands On Rigging Experience

August 28, 2012 0 Comments

Crane & Rigging Conference (CRC) Canada delegates will get hands on rigging experience when the event returns Sept. 13-14 to the Sutton Place Hotel in Edmonton, Alberta.

Mike Gelskey Sr., president and CEO, Lift-It Manufacturing, Los Angeles, Calif., will bring slings in varying conditions to test attendees’ knowledge and understanding of the rigging equipment and educate them in sling inspection.

Gelskey will provide the samples before his second presentation, titled Sling Inspection Simplified, which takes place on the second morning of the event. On day one, he will share insightful details of new developments in industry, association, regulatory, nuclear and consensus standards writing committees.

Gelskey has four decades of experience in the design and fabrication of synthetic lifting products. He regularly conducts sling user and inspector classes. In addition, he is the past president, director and committee chair of the Web Sling and Tie Down Association and serves on committees for ASME B30.9 and the Associated Wire Rope Fabricators.

Lift-It has recently opened a state-of-the-art training facility at its headquarters in Pomona, Calif. Set to stage training classes and webinars as early as next month (September), the 40-seat, 2,000 sq ft facility has hundreds of rigging samples, all generously donated by the industry’s leading manufacturers and suppliers.

Could you tell a safe sling from one that should be removed from service?

Other CRC Canada highlights include the inauguration of the Canadian Hoisting & Rigging Safety Council, a new, independent crane safety council of high-profile industry executives. The new council will be introduced to CRC Canada attendees on the afternoon of the second day of the event before forming a panel to take questions from the audience.

Cold weather lifting, competency and multi-crane lifts are just a few other topics on this year’s agenda. Register today at CraneandRiggingConference.com
